Fiji Football Association Labasa Academy is expected to be opened early next year as the construction is nearly completed.
The $5.5 million international standard academy is getting its final touches as Fiji FA awaits the transplanting of Bermuda grass.
FIFA has invested $4.6 million in the project while FIJI FA has been funding the rest.
Fiji FA Technical Director Timo Yankowski visited the academy on Saturday and was very much impressed with the setup at the academy.
“Wow, it is marvelous and something very good for the development of football in the north, “said Yankwoski
“We have taken the initiative to give youths the opportunity to be better players before they make the national team.
Yankowski said it was good to learn that Fiji FA was committed in the development of football players in North.
“I think it is a good initiative by Fiji FA to set up an academy in Labasa as we are looking to set up a program for elite players in all our academies,”
“The better the facilities the better we get, “added Yankowski
The academy will include two playgrounds, a futsal court, beach soccer pitch, kitchen, office, playground, dormitories (accommodate 30 players), technical room, conference hall, changing room, and space for 150-180 people for weddings, birthdays, and private functions.”
