This Digicel Fiji U20 side presented the i-ta=tau to His Excellency, the President of Fiji Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere at the State House this morning.
The i-Tatau is a traditional Fijian ceremony performed to seek blessings and permission before embarking on an important journey or endeavor.
The presentation of the i-Tatau to President Ratu Wiliame was a significant moment for the team and reflects the importance of traditional Fijian culture to the country’s identity.
It also underscores the team’s commitment to representing Fiji on the international stage with pride, honor, and respect for its cultural heritage.
While wishing the team well, President Katonivere said he acknowledges the handwork and the preparation by the players and coaching staff for the FIFA U20 World Cup.
“I can see that you are physically and mentally prepared, I appreciate all you have done,” Katinivere said
“While representing Fiji, listen to your coaches and follow their instructions. Go and play your hearts out for Fiji. Whatever the outcome, you will always be Team Fiji.”
“We are honored to present our i-Tatau to President Ratu Wiliame before heading to Argentina for the FIFA U20 World Cup,” said team co-captain, Thomas Dunn.
“It’s a reminder of our roots and a source of strength as we represent our country on the world stage.”
“We were thrilled to be given the honor of presenting ourselves to His Excellency the President of Fiji,” said Robert Mimms, head coach of the Junior Bula Boys.
“It is a proud moment for our team, and we are looking forward to expressing our gratitude and appreciation for the opportunity to represent our country.”
The FIFA U20 World Cup is set to take place from May 20th to June 12th in Argentina, and the Digicel Fiji Under 20 Football Team is among the 24 teams competing for the coveted trophy. The Junior Bula Boys will be leaving for Argentina on May 12th.
