The Fiji FA Women’s Super League is set to make a strong return this season with a revamped format, featuring six top teams instead of seven.
According to Fiji FA Competitions Manager Shaniya Shankar, the change aims to elevate the competition’s intensity and deliver a higher standard of football for fans and players alike.
“The streamlined format ensures that only the most competitive teams participate, promising fans high-quality football throughout the season,” Shankar said.
She added that while the previous seven-team structure allowed for wider participation and development opportunities, reducing the number of teams was a deliberate move to enhance competitiveness and efficiency.
“This change aligns with Fiji FA’s vision to raise the standard of women’s football and prepare players for higher levels of competition, including regional and international tournaments,” she explained.
The revised structure is expected to push teams to perform at their best in every match.
“The revised format will bring out the best in our players and coaches while providing fans with thrilling matches,” Shankar added.
To determine the final six teams for the league, a round-robin playoff will be held next month between the three lowest-ranked teams from last season: Suva Women, Tailevu Naitasiri Women, and Nadroga Women. The outcome of this playoff will decide which teams secure their place in the Super League for the 2025 season.
Meanwhile, Ba Women FC, last season’s champions, have already qualified for the OFC Women’s Champions League in Tahiti. This achievement underscores the progress of women’s football in Fiji and the league’s role in preparing teams for higher levels of competition.
