Fiji Football Association wants to revive the district based secondary schools Inter District Championship.
Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said they were in talks with Fiji Secondary Schools Football Association about their plan.
“We are in talks with FSSFA and we had a meeting with the Ministry of Education that Fiji Football would like to take the burden off from individual schools when they play in their zonal competitions.”
“Currently the schools pay subs to cater for the expenses for the zonal school competitions where they pay for the grounds, referees, medical and all that, “said Yusuf
He said Fiji FA was proposing to take over those costs.
“We are now proposing to take over those cost starting next year hopefully and something that the FSSFA Annual General Meeting will discuss with our presence.”
The Chief Executive Officer said they wanted to go away with their U16 competition currently known as Vodafone U16 Youth League.
“We will emphasise on number of matches will be played in each zone but we will not touch the structure the Fiji Secondary School Football Association is using but then we will appoint coaches from the secondary schools in each zone to identify elite players,”
Yusuf said this way an elite players would not be missed out after their does not qualifies.
“Once that is done we will have district zonal competition and the best eight teams will still have another IDC but not the Vodafone Secondary Schools IDC which we will allow to continue may be with reduce funding but we want the secondary schools to be based on district competition so the best players from the secondary schools are given the chance to excel,” said Yusuf
The Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Championship kicks on Wednesday August 7 to Sunday 11.
