Fiji FA signs sponsorship deal with Digicel

Fiji Football Association received a sponsorship deal of $2.85m over the next three years from Digicel Fiji last night.

Digicel Fiji chief executive Farid Mohammed reaffirmed its alliance with Fiji FA to take the sport to the next level.

“We are proud to be part of Fiji FA for another three years at all levels including schools, youth, women, district and national teams.

“This sponsorship reflects on our commitment to develop football at all levels and raise the profile of players in the country,” Mohammed said.

“Our youngsters now have the opportunity to shine and pursue the sport further with our support towards the primary and secondary schools competitions,” he added.

“I am certain that with this support we will help shape the future stars in football,” Mohammed added.

“Digicel continues to invest heavily in sponsorship for community and grassroots projects. Our multimillion-dollar commitment will impact all levels of the game and will support our ambition to make the properties that we have acquired the nation’s most successful leagues, on and off the pitch.”

“We will invest close to $4 million over three years in the development of football in Fiji which includes cash and kind sponsorship and activations throughout the season with a significant marketing and promotions spend.”

Digicel will also become title sponsors of all national teams and the national league competitions including the Digicel Premier League, Digicel Senior League and all youth and school competitions.

The deal also includes naming rights of the new Fiji FA Women’s Super League – which starts this weekend – and marks the biggest ever investment in Fiji women’s football by a brand – becoming the Digicel Women’s Super League.

Ticket specials will also be available for fans using the MyCash mobile wallet to buy tickets for matches with raffle draws and attractive prizes to be won every week during the Digicel Premier League.

“Football is followed religiously in this country. It unites people. It has the power to transform young people’s lives, boosting their confidence, and providing more opportunities to grow. We are All in for Sport, All in for Community, All in for Youth and All in for providing a Platform for our young people to excel in the sport they love so much,” added Farid.

Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel welcomed the support from Digicel.

“In tough times like this where we have been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, the big sponsorship from Digicel will surely assist us to run all footballing activities,”said Patel

“Every sponsor had reduced its amount and everything but Digicel came on board and we worked it out and today you see the fruits of it and now we are ready to kick start the Digicel Premier League.”

“Fiji FA is delighted to sign a new three-year partnership with Digicel Fiji.”

“This new partnership will enable for the continued growth of football at all levels enhancing young Fijians to show their natural skills and talent. No doubt our relationship will grow even stronger as we progress through the season.”

“This partnership goes beyond the game and it includes our digital upgrading, networks and other things. Very soon all districts will use Digicel network to communicate with Fiji FA and we have many other things planned.”

Patel also revealed that the Digicel Fiji FACT will be first major tournament of the year.

The group matches will be held from 14-16 May at the ANZ Stadium and the finals will be played at the same venue a week later.
