Fiji Football Association started its food ration assistance for the women footballers affected by the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic starting with the MaiLife Ba Women’s team at the Fiji FA Academy in Ba today.
While the Digicel Premier League teams’ ration distribution continued with Ba Men’s team, the assistance is now being rolled out to the Digicel Women Super League teams.
Leading the distribution for the women’s team was the Fiji FA executive board member Naziah Ali Krishna.
Mrs. Krishna said the restrictions for this second wave of Covid 19 in Fiji came right in the middle of the Digicel Women’s Super League and the Digicel Premier League so it has negatively impacted players who solely rely on football for their livelihood.
“Fiji Football as a result has dug into its coffers to assist players despite also suffering from the lack of football activity in the country.
“For Fiji FA the players are integral to the organization and it’s important that we support them where we can. Some of the footballers are the sole breadwinners of their families so it’s important that we step up and be there for them during this crisis. We hope to assist again in the near future.
“Fiji Football have given food packages to both men and women footballers of equal value showing that equal priority to women footballers.
“The women footballers are very appreciative of the support Fiji FA has shown since the pandemic hit us last year this being the second time they’ve been assisted with food rations,” she mentioned.
Ba Women’s rep Koleta Likuculacula thanked Fiji FA for thinking about the women footballers in this challenging times.
“I would like to thank Fiji Football for supporting us women’s in these hard times.
“There are some of the girls who depend on football and once again I thank Fiji FA for thinking about us girls and our families,” Likuculacula said.
The senior division men’s and women’s teams will also be assisted with food rations after the completion of the Premier division by next week.
