FIFA Forward Regional Workshop Concludes in Fiji

The two-day FIFA Forward Regional Workshop concluded at the Shangri-La Fijian Resort on Yanuca Island, bringing together finance managers and general secretaries from member associations of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC).

The workshop focused on strengthening financial governance, accountability and the effective implementation of the FIFA Forward Programme, which provides funding and support to member associations for football development.

Fiji Football Association General Manager Finance, Snehal Jariwala, said infrastructure funding through FIFA Forward has played a key role in the development of football facilities in Fiji.

Infrastructure funding has helped us develop three separate academies in Fiji that are fully equipped with futsal courts, beach soccer facilities, hall hire accommodation and other amenities. These facilities have also helped Fiji FA become more self-sufficient as they generate income for the organisation,” Jariwala said.

She added that the workshop had significantly enhanced her understanding of financial governance and responsible management of funds.

The workshop has enhanced my understanding of financial governance and the importance of managing funds responsibly. It has also reinforced the need to follow proper procurement procedures while ensuring transparency and accountability in all financial activities,” she said.

Jariwala said one of the key lessons taken from the workshop was the importance of improving cash flow management.

One of the key ideas we have taken from this workshop and wish to implement is improving our cash flow management, which is an area we need to focus on more,” she added.

She also commended FIFA for creating a platform that allowed member associations across Oceania to share knowledge and best practices.

This workshop has been very useful and a great initiative by FIFA to bring all 11 member associations onto one platform. It has provided the opportunity to share knowledge, learn best practices and strengthen governance and financial management within our organisations while also encouraging collaboration among member associations,” Jariwala said.

Jariwala described the workshop as an eye-opening experience, highlighting the importance of procurement procedures, governance, accountability and transparency in both professional and personal life.

The FIFA Forward Programme continues to support member associations through investment in infrastructure, capacity building and governance, ensuring sustainable football development across the Oceania region.
