Flowserve Engineering Navua FC is certainly a team to watch in this year’s Rooster Chicken/Scoops Ice Cream Battle of the Giants. Their history of causing upsets, combined with a squad that blends experience and youth, makes them a potential threat to the more established teams.
It’s been a long time since Navua last tasted victory in a major tournament, but their determined efforts and strong performances this season signal a promising future. Their lone BOG title came in 2005 when they defeated Rewa 1-0 in the final at the National Stadium in Suva. This year, their runner-up finish at the Digicel Fiji FACT highlights their capability and determination to reclaim their former glory.
Under the leadership of President Rajeev Prasad, Navua has formed a formidable team that has shown promise and resilience. With key players like experienced goalkeeper Jovirisi Borisi, defenders Filipe Baravilala, Kolinio Sivoki, Vinal Prasad, Mathew Charittar, Arami Manumanubai, Zainal Ali, Isake Naduvu, and Simione Damuni, they have a strong defensive line.
In midfield, the talents of Thomas Dunn, Sunny Deol, Brian Charittar, and Rahul Krishna provide creativity and stability. The inclusion of Solomon Islands internationals Ali Mekawir, Jarrod Rongosullia, and Jackson Wale adds depth and international experience to the squad.
Navua’s unpredictable nature and ability to cause major upsets make them a significant threat to their group rivals, Labasa, Nadi, and Lautoka. They begin their campaign against defending champions Extra Supermarket Labasa FC on Friday, July 26 at 7 pm. Their second match is against Smart Security/Calgary Nadi FC on Saturday, July 27 at 1 pm, followed by their final Group B match against Flick Hygiene Lautoka FC on Sunday, July 29 at 10 am.
