The Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) is proud to announce Extra Supermarket as the official major sponsor of the highly anticipated 2025 Battle of the Giants (BOG) football tournament.
The group stage of the competition is scheduled to kick off on 1 August 2025 and run through 3 August 2025 at Subrails Park, Labasa, marking the tournament’s return to the northern town after more than a decade.
Fiji FA President Mr. Rajesh Patel described the partnership as both timely and transformative, emphasizing the broader impact of the sponsorship.
“Extra support comes at a pivotal time,” said Patel.
“Their generosity ensures that the tournament won’t just be a display of top-level competition but also a celebration that brings fans together and uplifts our beautiful town of Labasa. It is truly a family affair.”
The announcement signals continued trust and investment from Extra in the development of Fijian football. In addition to backing the BOG tournament, the retail giant is also a major sponsor of the National Leagues (Extra Premier League, Extra Senior League, Extra U19 Boys Youth League, Extra U16 Boys Youth League, Extra Futsal League, Extra Futsal IDC) & the Extra Futsal National Team.
“We sincerely thank Extra for once again standing with us,” Patel added.
“They are not just our major sponsor for the Battle of the Giants but also for the National Leagues and Team. Their continued belief in Fijian football has been instrumental in our progress.”
Patel also took a moment to acknowledge the valuable contributions of past sponsors, recognizing their roles in the growth and success of the sport throughout the country.
The pool draws and the official launch of the 2025 Extra Supermarket Battle of the Giants Tournament (BOG) will be held this Wednesday.
Extra also expressed its pride in supporting Fijian football at all levels and bringing the excitement of the Extra BOG to Labasa.
“As a homegrown brand, we believe in giving back to the communities that support us,” said Lailanie Burnes, CMO.
“We’re thrilled to see the 2025 Battle of the Giants return to Labasa, a town we’re proud to call home, with one of our premier Extra stores serving the local community every day. It’s more than just sponsorship for us; it’s about being part of something bigger. We’re here not only to support the teams on the field but also to celebrate with families and fans off the field.”
Extra promises a fun-filled tournament weekend with plenty of excitement for everyone in attendance.
“Expect more than just football,” Lailanie added. “We’ll have a variety of fun activities, giveaways, and interactive experiences throughout the tournament. Whether you’re a die-hard football fan or just out for a good time with family and friends, there’ll be something for everyone to enjoy.”
The company also reaffirmed its broader commitment to the growth of the sport in Fiji.
“Since our initial partnership in 2022 we have grown our commitment to Fiji FA, and are pleased to be the major sponsor across multiple levels of the game, from the Extra Premier League, Extra Senior and Extra Youth Leagues to the Extra Futsal League, Extra Futsal IDC and the Extra Futsal national team. Supporting the Extra Battle of the Giants adds to that legacy.
“But our commitment goes even further,” she continued.
“We’re also proud to be the major sponsors of the Fiji Darts Association, supporting Team Fiji at the 4th South Pacific Darts Championship and the Fiji National Singles Darts Championship 2025. We’re the major sponsor of Tennis Fiji for the 118th Extra Fiji Open Tennis Tournament 2025, and we proudly support Fiji Golf, reflecting our belief in the value of sport in promoting health, unity, and national pride.”
“It’s a privilege to stand behind Fijian athletes, coaches, and fans across all these disciplines. From grassroots to national level, we’re helping build stronger communities through sport.”
