The victorious Rewa football players will be rewarded for their gallant performance against Lautoka in the OFC Champion League national play-offs on the weekend.
Club president Nazeel Buksh was lost for words after the impressive performance by the Delta Tigers in the return leg on Sunday at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
“Hats off to the players and the coaches,”Buksh said
“The team actually performed above even our expectation. The way they end up today (Sunday) they proved everyone that were against the team, criticizing the team and I think the stage is set now for them to go ahead and play in the OFC Champions League finals,”
“Right now we cannot go ahead of ourselves too because we have a very important match coming up against Ba in the DPL this weekend which is equally important for Rewa,”
“We will have the celebration tonight (Sunday) and back into business preparing for Digicel Premier League and OCL in August,”
Buksh said the players gave everything for their injured skipper.
“Our players played for Seta today (Sunday), the players, the team played for the skipper and even after the first goal all the players were looking for him and showed off his number 8 jersey,” said Buksh
“It was for him and it was for the whole of Rewa fans here and abroad,’
He added that the players did a marvelous job in securing the spot in the OCL finals.
‘The players did their best and thanks to the fans who came out in red and cheered the boys from the pavilion and showed their support,”
“Though it was a low turn up Buksh said it was live on TV and also the weather was not in favor for the fans but he knows the fans watching at home supported in their prayers.
“The fans that came, they came prepared like the team and they knew what was coming,” said Nausori businessman
“Looking at the performance today (Sunday) it’s no surprise the fans cheering like this,”
Buksh confirmed that all the players would receive bonus for the great show.
“Well it is in the pipeline and all the players will get the bonus that was promised to them even after such a wonderful match which was beyond our expectation the bonus also gone up for them.
The 4-0 win puts Rewa to join New Zealand’s Auckland City, the Cook Islands’ Nikao Sokattak, New Caledonia’s Hienghène Sport and Tahiti’s AS Vénus at the OCL Final Stage later this year.
