Eight teams in the battle

The Tailevu Naitasiri Association kicked off its 2020 Local League competition on Sunday at Ratu Cakobau Park Ground no 2.

Association secretary Sushil Singh said this season they had eight clubs participating in the local league competition.

“We have eight teams in this year’s competition which we expect a very tough competition,”

Singh said they had started the league without any sponsor.

“We are still looking for a sponsor for the club competition and are hopeful for someone to come on board to support club football.”

The former Tailevu Naitasiri rep said they had adopted the 90 mins football this year.

“This is the first time we are playing 90 minutes football at club level. This is to prepare players for district team. The players need to understand the level of fitness required to play 90 minute games. The only way is to getting used to it from club level,” said Singh

Meanwhile defending champions Buiduna FC has made an impressive start in the new season and looks like the team to beat. The team is laced with current district reps.

Singh said the district team had also started their preparations for the Senior League competition which would be starting soon.

“We have appointed former Rewa coach as our head coach and he is working hard to prepare a formidable team. He has selected some potential players from the Club games played on Sunday. We urge the players to come for district team training.”

The results of the 1st round games are as follows :

Lokia Sports 4 – 1 Kuku

Agriculture 1 – 1 Koroqaqa

Buiduna 3 – 0 Lokia Landing
