The 16 teams participating in this year’s Courts Inter District Championship will know their fate on who they will face after the pool draws on Friday at Courts Lelo Store in Tebara plaza, Nakasi.
Eight premier, eight senior and eight team will be fighting for the prestigious title in their respective divisions.
Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf confirmed that the Suva as host and Labasa as defending champions will lead a pool each.
“We will draw the pools according to teams standings in the Vodafone Premier League,” said Yusuf
“Rewa,Ba, Nadi, Lautoka, Nasinu and Navua will be drawn in separate pot and who they will join will be know after the draws on Friday ,”:said Yusuf
He said eight senior districts will be decided according to their standing as well in their respective zones.
“We will have four top teams from Viti Levu and four from Vanua Levu in for the senior division title, “said Yusuf.
Yusuf said for the first time the Vodafone women’s IDC would be played during the Courts IDC.
“This will be the first we are having women’s IDC during the Courts IDC where eight top teams will be fighting for the title,”
“Four teams from southern division, three teams from west and one team from north will be featuring in the Vodafone Women’s IDC,” said Yusuf
Yusuf said the IDC was one of the largest sporting events to be held in the country.
“Courts have been partnering with Fiji FA for the past 21 years and I thank them for their continuous support in the development of football in Fiji,”
“They have given the biggest sponsorship for a single tournament that Fiji FA has got,” he said.
“The prize-money has increased year by year. The premier winner will receive $25,000.
“In the senior division, the winner will receive $7500. The runner-up will get $2500 and losing semi-finalists $500 each.
The IDC started back in 1938 with Rewa winning the first two editions of the tournament.
Yusuf said the Courts IDC was the most prestigious event on the Fiji FA calendar. The Courts IDC kicks off on October 6 and takes a break on October 9 for the Fiji FA annual congress. The semifinals will be played on October 10, while the finals will be played on October 11.
Yusuf added that Fiji FA will also be celebrating Fiji’s 50th year of independence and Courts 100th anniversary this year.
The IDC tournament started in 1938 and this has made IDC the longest running football tournament in Fiji.
