Flick Hygiene Suva FC will host the 2024 Rooster Chicken/Scoops Ice Cream Battle of the Giants Tournament at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. Despite a challenging season, the Babs Khan-coached side is determined to prove critics wrong and reclaim their former glory.
Newly appointed president Nitin Singh is focused on making a significant impact at their home ground. He remains confident that Suva will be a formidable team in this year’s tournament, aiming to end their 28-year title drought with a roster of talented players.
Suva has only lifted the BOG trophy three times since the tournament’s inception in 1978, with their last victory in 1995 against Navua. The team has been molded into a strong unit under coach Babs Khan, supported by a robust team of administrators and financial backers.
The squad has been bolstered with key signings and impactful imports, adding strength to critical areas.
They will rely on goalkeeper Akuila Mataisuva, defenders Ramueru Takiate, Meli Codro, Simione Nabenu, Ramzan Khan, Joeli Ranitu, and Kavaia Rawaqa. The midfield will feature Dave Radrigai, Bruce Hughes, Ravinesh Karan Singh, Merill Nand, and imports Gagame Feni, Jaygrey Siphakana, and Joe Moses. Returning to the team and expected to be a key player is Samuela Drudru.
Suva is drawn into a challenging Group B with Extra Supermarket Rewa FC, Rooster Chicken Ba FC, and RPA Group/Nadroga Auto Marine Upholstery Work Nadroga FC. Every match will be crucial as none of the teams can afford a poor result.
The campaign begins against arch-rivals Rewa FC on Friday, July 26, at 5.30 pm, followed by a clash with Ba FC on the second day at 7 pm. Suva will conclude the group stage against Nadroga FC on Sunday, July 28, at midday.
