BULA BOYS TO FOCUS ON PREPARING FOR OFC NATIONS CUP

The Digicel Fiji National Men’s Football team returned after engaging in a two-leg series of FIFA March Window International Friendlies against the Solomon Islands National Football team in Honiara. Despite a 1-2 defeat in the first leg, the Bula Boys showcased resilience with a commanding 2-0 victory at the Lawson Tama Stadium in the Solomon Islands.

Midfielder Mohammed Fataul Raheem emerged as the star, scoring a goal in each series. In the 1-2 loss, Raheem netted Fiji’s lone goal, while he also delivered a spectacular free-kick goal in the second leg, securing Fiji’s lead in the first half. Captain Roy Krishna extended Fiji’s advantage in the 64th minute.

Coach Rob Sherman expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance in both series, commending their adherence to the game plan throughout the 90 minutes. However, Sherman voiced disappointment with some decisions made by players in the first leg, where they suffered a 2-1 defeat.

Sherman emphasized the need for improvement in consistency but was pleased with their performance in the second leg. He sees this as a significant step forward for the players, upon which they can build.

Fiji will now focus on preparing for the OFC Nations Cup scheduled to take place in Vanuatu in June.
