Farmtrac Labasa defeated Rams Cleaning Services/Destiny Bar Bistro Suva 2-1 in the opening match of the 2022 Punjas Battle of the Giants tournament at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
The two sides went into the breather locked at nil-all with Suva breaking the deadlock first at the start of the second spell.
Suva striker Samuela Drudru opened the account for the Whites.
Labasa answered back in the 51st minute after a defensive mistake by Inoke Turagalailai allowing Ratu Apenisa Anare to slot in the equalizer.
Suva again with another defensive blunder saw Lekima Gonerau net Labasa’s second from long range.
In the second match, All in One Builders Nadi and Cambridge Farms/Nabitu Farmers Nadroga settled for a nil-all draw.
Nadi dominated possession and had a lot of chances but they couldn’t find the back of the net.
The two teams will share a point each from this match.
The Jetsetters face Rams Cleaning Services/Destiny Bar Bistro Suva in its second match tomorrow at 3 pm while Nadroga takes on Labasa at 11 am.
Both teams will be looking to register their first win.
Bargain Box Ba football got off to a perfect start in the Punjas Battle of the Giants.
The Men in Black defeated Aldex Trading Navua 2-0 in the third match.
Ba scored two goals within five minutes with Luke Savu scoring in the 23rd minute and Claude Aru in the 27th.
The Imdad Ali-coached side faces Naidu Holdings Ltd (NZ) Lautoka tomorrow at 5 pm while Navua meets Rewa at 1 pm.
Naidu Holdings Ltd/ All in One Builders Lautoka and Rewa finished with a 1-all draw on
day one of the Punjas Battle of the Giants Tournament at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
Rewa’s Abbu Zaid scored the first goal in the 40th minute after tough defensive work from the hosts.
But it didn’t end there as Lautoka managed to hit back five minutes later with a goal from Saula Waqa.
The game went into a 1-all draw at half-time.
Lautoka’s goalkeeper Joela Biuvanua made a lot of saves for the hosts as Rewa kept a strong attack in the second half.
Lautoka plays its next match against Bargain Box Ba tomorrow at 5 pm.
Rewa will face Aldex Trading Navua at 1 pm.
