Ba rules women league

Ba women’s football side have retained the Vodafone Senior Women’s League 2020 title after defeating Tailevu Naitasiri 6-2 in the final match on Sunday.

The play-off was contested between the southern winners and the western champions after northern winners Labasa pulled out of the competition.

The competition was played in a new format with both teams playing home and away basis fixture. Ba also won the first leg 6-0.

Ba dominated most of the play while Tailevu Naitasiri goalkeeper Wati Kokalau kept them in the game.

Ba captain Luisa Tamanitokula says the hard work paid off.

“The success behind our victory is hard work, dedication and commitment from all of us,”

Tamanitokula praised the new players who were given break in the second match.

“I support our coach for giving opportunity to some of the new players in the game today (Sunday) and they really played well and I salute them,”

“These new players are just sixteen years old and they have bright future in football and I thank them for their hard work, commitment and dedication.

The national women football reps dedicated the win to all Ba fans.

“I dedicate this win to all Ba fans especially those who were affected by the recent flooding and Cyclone Ana,”

Tailevu Naitasiri coach Elvin Goundar said they lost to an experienced team.

“Ba is a very experience team and they have most national team players but I am happy the performance of my girls despite loss in the both matches,”

“We managed to improve in our second match and we scored two goals against Ba so that shows the girls are learning from the mistakes, “said Goundar

Goundar believes the play-off was the buildup for the new season.

“Well we always learnt from our mistakes and results have given us to work harder this season,” said Goundar.

He said their focus was not on the Fiji FA Super Six League this season.

The ladies in black received $1500 prize-money and Tailevu Naitasiri walked away with $750.
