Ba in control

The Ba women’s football team kept its unbeaten record in the Digicel Women’s Super League after completion of the first round of the competition.

Last Sunday they thrashed Rewa 4-0 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

Rewa gave a tough battle in the first half as both teams went into the breather with a nil-all draw.

Ba made a strong second-half comeback with striker Cema Nasau starring for her side scoring a brace of goals to maintain their spot as points table leaders.

Nasau pressed on the Rewa defense in the 60th minute, sneaking in a goal right in front of Rewa goalie Merevesi Ofakimalino.

Nasau added another to her name with replacement Laca Sukulu coming off the bench to extend their lead.

Captain Luisa Tamanitoakula took on the leading role to bag one more goal and give them the win.

Rewa defender Naomi Waqanidrola was impressed with the performance of her players.

“I think it was a good game as we played without a coach but the girls gave a good fought in the first half but I think we lacked fitness and that is why we could not hold Ba in the second half,” said Waqanidrola

“Ba is a very strong side and they have twelve national team players but we are not disappointed with the loss because the girls gave out everything in the game,”

Ba coach Charlene Lockington praised the effort of the Rewa.

“I think Rewa really gave us a tough game and I salute them. They were very good in the first half as they denied us scoring,

“Overall I am happy with the performance of players as they followed our game plan in the second half, “said Lockington

In other match Suva registered its first win beating Tailevu Naitasir 2-1 at Uprising Sports Center in Pacific Harbor.

In round six this weekend Suva will play Nadroga at 1pm while Rewa will face Tailevu Naitasiri at 3pm at Fiji FA Academy Ground in Vatuwaqa on Saturday.
