Nadi 1 Suva 0
The 2012 Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament kicked off last Sunday at Subrail Park in Labasa. A huge crowd turned out as Suva and Nadi battled in the opening clash. Suva with new signings Sanni Issa and Samuela Kautoga started the match well. The talented Nadi side matched the capital side and a goal in the dying stages by former Labasa star Amani Makoe was enough for the green machine to gain three crucial competition points.
Ba 3 Nadroga 1
The score line may look as a one sided affair but it did not reflect the effort put in by the Nadroga side. Ba took an early lead via a Mavileko Nakama goal. Nadroga struck back and made Ba work hard for the remainder of the match. Soon they leveled the match 1-1 and threatened Ba in the reaminder of the match. Ba goalie Epeli Codro made some good saves before Malakai Tiwa and Osea Vakatalesau made it impossible for Nadroga to catch up.
Lautoka 3 Navua 1
Navua made a perfect start with a first half lead but were not able to maintain their performance as they lost 3-1. It was super substitute Isikeli Jeke Keli who has now joined the Lautoka side after departing Nadroga. Trailing 0-1 Lautoka coach Lambert Sarju made some changes which proved to be the match winner as Keli scored three goals.
Labasa 2 Rewa 0
In front of a bumper crowd Labasa had to win for their fans and they just did that. Labasa side played with lot of heart to secure a crucial win and look favourite to contest the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants title. Rewa on the other hand may have suffered a blow towards their defence of the title but are still now not out and positive results in their next two outings could see them in the playoffs.
