Concluding the first part of their preparation at the national academy in Ba last week, Reddy said selection was still open.
“At the moment we have a good set of 25 players that coach Imdad Ali and assistant Kamal Suwamy are working with. They will be called back in camp on the second week of February and then we will be finalising the final squad,” Reddy said.
The national team director said that the 2012 Pillay Garments Champions League and the upcoming Fiji Sun/GP Batteries National Football League provided an ideal platform for their preparation.
“It is good to see that the players have been exposed in the Champions League and later the national league which is coming up. The coaches will be selecting any other talent which they feel are capable of representing the national U23 side.”
“My humble request is for the district associations to support the national team. We will be representing the country and need to field the best players available.”
On the other hand Reddy said the senior national men’s squad will be called into camp early next month.
“The senior squad will be called into camp first week of February. We still have some time on our hands with the senior side and we will be looking for a strong preparation for the second stage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup playoffs,” he said.
At the playoff which has been scheduled for later this year in June, Fiji has been thrown in a pool of death with New Zealand “All Whites”, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea.
