The festival was part of the “Just Play” programme pilot launch which completed its first phase in the Suva district.
Yasir Janif the Fiji “Just Play” project manager says a total of 13 Suva based primary schools and two communities were part of the fun event.
“A “Just Play” football festival will be held in every district where we complete the first phase. Suva is the first district where the programme was launched and is only fitting to have the first festival here.
“The Rewa district will next be in line for the festival as they complete the first phase and then we will move to other districts,” he said.
Janif elaborated further on Thursdays activities at the TFL National Stadium in Suva.
“We had orgainsed various activities for the kids. Small sided football games, fun activities like sack racing, bun eating, apple eating contest etc. The idea was to get the kids together to have a fun day.
“The “Just Play” programme would like to thank the teachers, volunteers, children and parents who helped Fiji FA make this Youth Football Festival a reality. Without their support it would not have been possible” Janif said.
The Ministry of Health promotions department strongly supported the event. They were present at the venue promoting healthy lifestyles and diet.
