He said the target has been set with the onus now being on the team management and players to get the job done.
“I’m positive on both our side’s chance. Like any other side coming to the Pacific Games, our aim is to also bring back the gold medal,” Sharma said.
“Looking at the men’s side, in following the procedures set by FASANOC (Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee) we submitted a squad earlier in the year and we had to work within that list. I believe this is the strongest and most experienced side that we could have selected for the Pacific Games. I have full faith in these players and
optimistic that they will do us proud.”
“I have been getting regular reports from the women’s camp and pleased with the progress they have made. The two international tests against Samoa was a good build up for them and they know what sort of competition they will get in Noumea,” he said.
The senior men’s side lost in the final during the 2007 games held in Samoa while the women’s finished third overall.
Pacific Games is set to provide the right platform for both our national side’s as vital playoffs awaits us. The senior men’s side will be participating in the 2014 FIFA World Cup playoffs while the women will look to top the Oceania region and qualify for the Olympic Games.
