Ba edged Navua 2-1 thanks to a 70th minute free-kick, nailed perfectly by specialist Avinesh Waran Suwamy as both sides were locked 1-1 at that point of the match.#Striker Isimeli Naresia had given Ba the lead just 20 minutes in the first half following a blunder by the Navua defence. Usaia Tadu played the ball to his goalie Benaminio Mateinaqara not aware of a raging Naresia who followed to just sneak a shot over the Navua stopper. #Ba dominated most of the first spell but we shell-shocked later when Joseph Mishra of Navua equalised in the 52nd minute. Ba defender Jone Vesikula gifted the ball to rushing Navua striker Jesoni Takala who raced through the right flanks to swing a wide cross for Mishra to tap in the equaliser. Later a foul by Tadu on the edge on the Navua box gave Suwamy the chance the regain the lead. #Anil Amin the Ba Football Association Vice President says the win was a perfect moral booster for the remainder of the competition. #“It was a good start to the Champions League. We are very happy with this start as a win now gives us an advantage over the other opposition but having said that I believe there is still a lot of room for improvement for our next match,” Amin said. #However the eagerly awaited Lautoka and Rewa ended in a 2-2 stalemate. Rewa lead 1-0 at the break following a Ratu Veresa Toma goal in the 41st minute. Back with the blues lethal striker Valerio Nawatu scored twice in the second spell to give his side a 2-1 lead. #Epeli Saukuru rescued his Rewa side with the equalizer coming in the 89th minute. Solomon Islanders George Lui and Charles Frazer Maebule featured for the Rewa side. #Rewa President Pranil Singh welcomed the result. #“I’m happy with the final result and I think all the Rewa fans should feel the same. Rewa came under prepared for this match and in the end a draw is better than losing a match. This one crucial point keeps us alive in the tournament,” Singh said. #2011 Pillay Garments Champions League#January 23 2011#Govind Park, Ba#2pm Full Time: Lautoka 2 Rewa 2#Lautoka Goals: Valerio Nawatu 58”, 64”#Lautoka Caution: Valerio Nawatu 28’#Rewa Goals: Ratu Versa Toma 41″: Epeli Saukuru 89″#Rewa Caution: Ratu Luke Lomasalato 49’#Lautoka starting line up : 20.
