Presidents Corner

Greetings to all#Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants#The stage is set for the 2012 Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament which kicks off this Sunday at Subrail Park in Labasa with the first round of matches. #This tournament for the past few weeks has been gaining a lot of momentum and fans are eager to see their sides in action. With the transfer and registration period ending last weekend, district sides have regrouped bringing in some exciting talents which will be pleasing for the fans. #From the report received, I’ am assured that Subrail Park is in top conditions to accommodate the eight participating teams and the fans that are expected to be present in large numbers. #Fiji Football Association anticipates a successful first round and we hope that fans in Vanua Levu will be out on Sunday to make the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants a successful event. #On this note I would like to thank grounds committee chairman in the North Mr. Dewan Chand who has worked tirelessly to see that everything is in order. Sponsors Inkk Mobile a big thank you for helping us continue this tradition and we hope for a similar support in many more years to come. #Fiji FA will also be recognising former national reps residing in Lautoka. We will be giving them free passes for the Inkk Mobile BOG. Complimentary cards will be made for them which can be collected from former national rep Bobby Sahadat. #Premier Division#The huge score line margins in the recent two premier division matches is a shame for football in Fiji. Nasinu few weeks back beat Tailevu North 18-1 and last weekend Tailevu Naitasiri beat Levuka 22-1. #I was disappointed to learn that Levuka fielded only nine players in the clash. These sorts of scorelines reflect badly on Fiji Football Association and its affiliates. It undermines the work and progress of the sport in the country. #Following last weekend’s result we have decided that both these matches be investigated. If there is any foul play involved then the sides will be taken to task. #We will also like to know what is happening in the districts. If a side like Levuka loses by 22 goals and is only able to field nine players in a match then that means no development is taking place in that respective zone. #Fiji FA will get to the bottom of this and will look for means and ways to root this problem. #We have set up a three member committee consisting of people who have a very strong football background to investigate the matter. Former Fiji FA official Hari Raj Naicker will be the chairman, former Rewa officials Armogam Reddy and Vijay Prasad make up the committee which will present a report to us after which necessarily action will be taken. #OFC generosity#On behalf of the football family in Fiji, I would like to thank Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) for their generous support which made a donation of FJD $35,357.15 through the “Football for Life” into the Prime Ministers Flood Appeal fund. #As a national sporting body we have some obligation to the society and with the assistance of OFC we have been able to contribute. #People especially in the Western division have been affected badly by the floods earlier this year. Overall we hope that these funds will contribute towards the rebuilding process. #Fiji Football News#It is a milestone achievement as we celebrate the 100th issue of the Fiji Football News today. I would also like to thank the Fiji Sun publisher/chief executive officer Mr. Peter Lomas who has strongly supported in the publishing of this weekly lift out. Fiji Football News has given us an opportunity to promote our various programmes and initiatives which will assist in the development of the sport. # # #
