In a double header afternoon winless Navua face Lautoka 2pm and later at 4pm Rewa battles Ba. Both Ba and Rewa are undefeated in the Champions League so far.
Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA)technical director Saiyad Ali says the 2011 Pillay Garments Champions League is a perfect build up for players vying for a spot in the National senior side for the upcoming Pacific Games in New Caledonia.
Ali believes this sort of competition will give players ample game time. With the national team squad members committed with their respective teams, he says there are no plans to call in the second training camp just yet.
“At the moment there is no need to call in a camp for the national senior squad. Most of the players are occupied with their respective teams participating in the Champions League while others will soon be involved in the National League,” Ali said.
“The Champions League is a perfect platform for us in preparation for the Pacific Games. With the Champions League the best players are playing against the best players in the country from the top four teams in a 90 minute game. The important thing is that the players are occupied with the domestic competition and not lying idle.”
As the players are occupied with their district teams, Ali says they will be closely monitoring the players.
“I will be visiting the various districts and monitoring the players. Every 5 to 6 weeks we plan to have a fitness test,” he said.
