Winning start for Labasa

This comes following a close 1-0 victory over Lautoka in the last match of the first round of matches played at the TFL National Stadium in Suva. #The Inkk Mobile BOG marked the return of new recruit Alvin Avinesh and Labasa stars Roy Krishna and Apisalome Turuva who both missed the Vodafone Fiji FACT. It was also a pleasant sight to see striker Valerio Nawatu back with the blues#Lautoka seemed unsettled early on which saw Labasa striker Maciu Dunadamu give the babasiga lions the lead on the 4th minute of play. Dunadamu’s goal made the difference as they held on to gain three crucial points. #Fiji FA development officer and Labasa coach Hussain Sahib says his side needs to tidy up on few areas before they next encounter. Sahib knows the enormous task ahead of them after being seeded in a group of death with sides like Ba, Lautoka, Rewa and Nadroga who upset the Men in Black 1-0 earlier on. #”We did not play constructive football that Labasa is known for and today the players were just playing kick and chase soccer. We have to improve a lot before our next match and I will be spending time with the players so we can come out more strongly in the next match,” he said. #”It is a tough pool and we have to give our best in every match. We were lucky to come away with a win against Lautoka.”#Lautoka coach Yogendra Dutt, said their focus was on now on their remaining matches. #“The boys played a lot of long balls. They should have played the ball on the ground. I think our boys got carried away with the big names in Labasa. We still have a tournament to play and we will take each step at a time,” Dutt said. #Labasa: 1. Akuila Mateisuva (GK), 2. Samuela Kautoga, 5. Alvin Avinesh, 6. Apisalome Turuva, 7.
