Suva claim first League victory

Down one goal at the break an inspirational Suva skipper Esava Naqeleca struck twice in the second spell to guide the capital side to a 2-1 victory over the Skippy U-20.#Their coach Manoj Kumar says the win was a crucial one for their season and aim was to do better in their remaining matches.# #“We cannot afford to look back now after this win. Our recent few matches in the National League and Radio Apna Cup in New Zealand were all about exposing the players and I’m pleased with this win,” Kumar said.#“We were down 1-0 at the break and at half time I told the boys that it was difficult to play catch up football and a second goal from the U-20 might have made it difficult for us. I’m glad they came out strong,” Kumar said.#Skippy U-20 rep Joshua Inoke Tawake sneaked in a goal just before half time. In the second half Suva regrouped. #Iosefo Vosaboto the Under -20 team manager says it was back to the drawing board for them. Earlier on Friday night the under -20 side beat Angel Mackerel Tavua 2-0. #“One may be aware that the National League is part of our preparations for the Oceania U-20 playoffs. We are taking each game as it comes and then learning from our mistakes. We played a very tough game against Tavua on Friday and maybe we got excited and did not see the mistakes. Sometimes when things don’t work out then one sees the weakness#“We are happy with how the boys performed against Suva. The team will return and review the match to see where we went wrong,” Vosaboto said. #Elsewhere Eveready Rewa played to a 1-1 draw at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori against Royal Tea Nadi. The return of top gun Simione Tamanisau proved timely as he got the equaliser for the delta tigers after Mohammed Shalmeen had given Nadi an early lead. #Stats#2011 Fiji Sun/Weet-Bix National Football League#February 27, 2011#3pm Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori#Full Time: Eveready Rewa 1 Royal Tea Nadi 1#Rewa Goal: Simione Tamanisau 15”# Mohammed Shalmeen 12”#Nadi Caution: Lekima Gonerau 39’#4pm TFL National Stadium, Suva#Full Time: Bic Power Electric Suva 2 U-20 Skippy 1#Suva Goals: Esava Naqeleca 65”: 77”#U-20 Goal: Josua Inoke Tawake 41”#Friday February 25, 2011#7pm, Govind Park#Full Time: U-20 Skippy 2 Angel Mackerel Tavua 0#U-20 Goals: Abbu Zahid 54”: Noa Vukica 69”#U-20 Caution: Jone Salaweune 24’: Christopher Kumar 47’#Tavua Caution: Azil Salim 83’# Source: Fiji FA MEDIA
