Fiji FA Presidents Corner

There were various important matters discussed at the Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) Board of Control meeting in Ba over the weekend. I’m pleased that the meeting discussed various issues needless to say the meeting concluded at 9pm.#Important matters discussed at the meeting included the National Team. After going through the recommendations of our Technical Director Saiyad Ali it was agreed that we have now form what is called the zonal selection and coaches. Zones which are South, West and North will make things not only easy but very competitive for our final selection. #We will have games where zonal teams play each other which will then give us a wonderful competitive opportunity for National team selection.#It is a pity that previous development officers did not recommended this and here I must compliment our technical director. #Also the question of National Coach, we have shortlisted three candidates a local, one from New Zealand and one from Australia. #I have interviewed the one from Australia he is an Argentine .I got him over during the senior national team camp. The one from NZ also sounds very good, he is happy to even free of charge coach my U-20 team and for six weeks give his free service. He has stated that if he brings some success to the U-20 team then we judge if he is fit to be the National team coach.# I’m now trying to get him over to Fiji for a week by the end of this month and that should give chance for Fiji FA to decide.#As far as women’s football is concerned we are taking things seriously. We want to have a good development programme for women’s football. We want to have a full time #Women’s development officer who will also be the National Womens coach. #On the other hand we are going to be very serious about club competition and each of the vice president in various zones will have to monitor club competition in all the districts #We want to show interest in the Premier Division, They need help and we are going to give them every possible help. Of course this has been accepted by my board and on this context I must compliment the president of Lami Football Mr. Mohammed Sareem for the proposals that he has put forward where he states that we should have a separate IDC and BOG calendar for the premier division and also league is going on he wants to play on a home and away basis. #I must compliment him for making such a wonderful constructive and progressive proposal so we are going to write to them and then look for a sponsor. If we don’t find a sponsor then it would be very difficult to hold separate BOG and IDC for the premier division. We will also try to help them by getting our development officers to take more interest in the premier division #Also there has been a proposal in view of the heavy commitments in the international calendar with the U-20 world cup playoffs, beach soccer and playoffs for the senior team. Under the FIFA rules if we select players then they are bound to come and play for the National team but at the same token we do not want to embarrass the district teams .#So what the proposal has come that we should have our first round of league finished first then we focus on the National commitments and after the IDC we play the second round of the league. #Rather than the board saying we make the decision I suggested that we will present this into the Fiji Football Council meeting which is scheduled for 27th of February , I want all the district to participate in the discussion. #Source: Fiji Football News #
