Toma along with Shalen Buisena who was part of the last national beach soccer side in 2009 joined the side last week.#Intiaz Khan the National Beach Soccer head coach says players from the original 18-member squad who failed to turn up have been axed which forced them to seek the services of other players.#“The member’s part of the 18-member squad was given enough time to join the team. Only nine turned up so we had to seek the services of other players,” Khan said.#“I would like to thank Veresa Toma and Shalen Buisena who showed commitment to answer the call up for national duties on such short notice. Currently we have 11 players in camp and we might include few other players as get closer to the playoffs”.#Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tahiti and Vanuatu will be part of the 2011 OFC beach soccer playoffs which will be held from February 22 -26.# Khan says they will face an uphill battle at the playoffs. #“It will be a real tough task for us at the playoffs but we will give it our best shot. We are not able to take the best with us but I have full faith with the players which I currently have. I’m confident that they will rise to the occasion and prove themselves,” he said.#The national beach soccer side shifts their camp to Sigatoka next week before departing for Tahiti. #“We do not have much time on our hands so we plan to shift the camp to Sigatoka next week. We plan to have some sessions at the sand dunes before finalising the team that travels to Tahiti.
