Ba wins Inkk BOG

After normal time both sides were locked 0-0. Match headed into two spells of extra time which still could not determine the winner and thus the match headed into penalty kicks. #Ba was reduced to 10 players in extra time as lethal striker Osea Vakatalesau was sent off for his second caution. #Ba outscored Labasa 4-2 in the shootout with national under 23 rep Laisenia Raura nailing the winning penalty for Ba. #Lethal finisher Avinesh Waran Suwamy missed the first penalty but Jone Vesikula, Josefata Neibuli, Mavileko Nakama and Raura found the target. #Taione Kerevanua scored for Labasa after Suwamy’s miss but later Apisalome Turuva and Taniela Waqa could not sucueed as Ba claimed glory. Top strikers Maciu Dunadamu and PNG based Kema Jack who could have nailed the penalties were substituted in the match prior to the shoot out. #Earlier in the tournament Labasa had edged out Ba 1-0 to book a place in the semifinal. # It was joy for the Ba fans that had waited for their side to win one of the three Fiji Football Association major tournaments. Ba last lifted the Vodafone Fiji FACT in 2010 at the same venue. #Ba Football Association president Rishi Kumar said the victory marked another piece of history for their side. #“I’m really happy with the performance of the Ba side. I would like to thank them and their families for the support,” he said. #“Both sides displayed a constructive game and this is what football is about. The match was played for three hours which has never happened but everything in football in starts with Ba.”#“This is our 30th title in 10 years and Ba’s 80th overall title in the history of Fiji soccer.” #“Hats off to the Labasa side they played a brilliant match and I must thank their officials. For the past few years we have been requesting the Fiji FA to start with 90 minutes football in tournaments and now we can see the result of 90 minutes soccer,” Kumar said. #Labasa football interim president Bhim Raj Reddy saluted his players despite the shortfall in the finale. #“The boys really played well. It was a big challenge to them starting from day one till the last match and I would like to thank them ,” Reddy said. #The Ba team walked away with $11,000 as the Inkk Mobile BOG champions. Labasa received $4000 as runner up. #Ba’s Remeuru Tekiata was named the best player of the tournament. In pool play Ba beat Nadroga 3-1, Rewa 1-0 and lost to Labasa 0-1.
