Hopes high for U20

This was the view of National U20 team director Sheik Ibrahim. The National U20 squad departed the country a fortnight ago, four weeks prior to the playoffs to play few build up matches and continue with their preparation for the playoffs.#The 2011 OFC U20 playoffs will be held from April 21 to 29th at the Center Park, Mangere in Auckland. #A total of seven countries which includes Fiji, American Samoa, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu will be part of the playoffs. #Fiji has been seeded in Group A with PNG, Vanuatu and American Samoa. Group B sees host New Zealand, New Caledonia and Solomon Islands. #“Hope are high and we are confident to win the playoffs and become the first National Football side to qualify for a World Cup,” Ibrahim said.#“There is no reason why we cannot win. The U20 squad has been in camp for more than a year and played the 2010 National Football League. Players also represented their various districts. If this U20 team does not qualify then I believe we will need to reassess our various preparation plans before we prepare a National side for playoffs.”#The format of the playoffs sees the top two teams from each group after a round robin stage qualify for the semi finals. The two winners from the semi finals will feature in the final to fight for a FIFA U20 World Cup ticket. #The National U20 squad has been in camp full time at the Dr. Muhammed Shams-UD-Dean Sahu Khan National Football Academy since January 2010. #As part of their build-up they featured in the 2010 Fiji Sun/Weet-Bix National Football League and first six matches of the opening round of the 2011 League.# Fiji FA MEDIA#
