Presidents Corner

The Fiji Football Association board of control met at the National Football Academy in Ba last Saturday April 21, 2012. #Following are the major outcomes from the meeting. #Fiji-Play Fair Brazil team match#I’m pleased to announce that Fiji FA has agreed to play a two match exhibition series against the Play Fair Brazil team match which will be here in August. Our national senior side will play two matches against some of the Brazilian football legends and upcoming stars. Fiji FA board agreed on this initiative and we have already sent our confirmation. This is a huge boost for football in the country and I urge all the fans to get behind us. (See more details). #Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants #The 2012 Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament has been confirmed for Churchill Park in Lautoka. We were not able to adopt to the new 8-team format during the Vodafone Fiji FACT due to the recent natural disasters but it is now confirmed that the new format will be implanted in the second major tournament of the year. Eight teams will participate and matches will be played over 90 minutes. The first round will be held on July 22, 2012 with the venue yet to be confirmed. The tournament starts proper at Churchill Park from July 26-29. Cutoff date to determine the top eight sides will be June 15. #National Puma Olympic U23 #The Fiji FA board congratulated the players and team management for their effort at the 2012 Oceania Football Confederation London Olympic playoffs. We lost 0-1 in the final to New Zealand but the overall performance at the playoffs signaled that we have what it takes to knockout Oceania’s top side. #Age-Group Playoffs#The Fiji FA board of control decided that our national Under 17, U20 men’s and women’s side will participate in future Oceania playoffs. Women’s missed out on this year’s U17 and U20 championship because of the massive flooding. A structure will soon be put into place to see Fiji compete at this age group levels which will indeed be a perfect platform to expose our players at a very young age to top level competitions.#Pillay Garments Champions League#After studying the format of the 2012 Pillay Garments Champions League which was not successful earlier this year the board has now decided to spread this competitions to different venues and to be played over the a period of time on a home and away basis and not over a weekend. #OFC Nations Cup#The national senior squad is currently part of a two week camp at the National Football Academy in Ba preparing for the 2012 Oceania Football Confederation Men’s Nations Cup to be played at Lawson Tama Stadium in Honiara, Solomon Island. The board has been informed by the team management that the squad will go full time in camp after the Vodafone Fiji FACT. #Dual Roles#The Fiji FA board has given vice president/Nadi football association president Jiten Kumar until the end of May to decide on which role he wants to continue on. Verbally he has agreed to continue with Fiji FA but has stated that his official confirmation will come after the Nadi FA board meeting which will take place soon. # The Fiji Football Associations Presidents Corner is published every Wednesday in the Fiji Football News which is a 12-page insert in the Fiji Sun newspaper. # #
