The Billy Hussain coached side finished the two day event undefeated and have now earned a spot in the Viti –Vanua Levu playoffs.
Taveuni beat Bua 2-1, Nadogo 1-0, drew with Dreketi 0-0 and Seaqaqa 0-0. Seaqaqa came the closest to challenge Taveuni but lost an all important match to Bua 2-1.
The winner of the two legged Viti-Levu playoffs will be declared the 2012 Fiji Sun/GP Batteries Premier National
Football League champion and feature in the promotion relegation series against the bottom placed Super Premier side.
Hussain was lost of words following the victory.
“This win is unbelievable, “ he said.
“We just had one week to get the boys together and prepare a squad and I must thank the players who worked overtime for this achievement.”
“If now we want to progress it will be up to us and will have to put I more effort,” he said.
Fiji Football Association competitions manager Jainendra Sukhu said the two-day tournament was a major success.
“It was good to see all the Northern premier sides in action. The players played their hearts and tried their best to put up an entertaining show. Congratulations to Taveuni who at the end were deserving winners.”
