The work has begun at the Fiji Football Association headquarters in Vatuwaqa with the construction of the football play field behind the Futsal court.
The project has started with the labeling of the ground and the building work is expected to start soon after the labeling.
“The construction of the field has already started with the labeling of the ground by a New- Zealand based company Vuksich and Borich who was handed the tender by the FIFA,” Kumar said.
The Project has been fully funded by the World governing body FIFA with the sum of USD$500 000 for the improvement of the football in the country.
He also said that it the field will be ready soon after the construction work is completed.
The field will be one of a kind for the academy once the final touches are completed.
This would be the second field for the academy based in the Suva after the construction of the Futsal court at the same venue.
“The field would be of an international standard to help our national team prepare better for the international matches as the pitch would be of a sand carpet.
The field would surely improve the standard of football in the country.” Kumar added.
The construction work is expected to be completed by June this year.
