Fiji U-17 Departs Tuesday

A total of ten teams will participate in the event which will be held from 8-19th January at North Harbour Stadium. The overall winner of the playoffs will earn a spot in the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico.
The early departure for the National side is a move to acclimatise the local players, most of who are travelling for the first time.
Fiji is in a tough group with host NZ, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and American Samoa. National U-17 team director Rajesh Patel says the side departs in a confident mood.
“The coaches have done a good job and we are confident of a good outing in NZ. We will pass each hurdle as it comes and then plan for the next move. The build up games in NZ before the playoffs are a vital part of our preparation as this should prepare the players well,” Patel said.
Labasa lad Josaia Masiwini was given the charge to lead the National U-17 side while goalie Senirusi Bokini named vice captain.
Patel also confirmed that Jacks of Fiji has provided Adidas brand outfits which will be donned by the National U-17 side during the playoffs.
The team director says the support from Jacks had been a major boost for the side which departs the country Tuesday evening at 8pm.
