A series of basic referee’s course has been conducted around the country in the past few weeks. Fiji FA referees instructors along with the zonal coordinators have been working closely with the respective district association’s referees department to run the courses.
Chand said this was a major step towards them achieving their target.
“It is a good to see that the basic referee’s course at the moment is being held successfully around the country in different centers,” he said.
“The objective of the course is to recruit new referees and at the same time further train the current referees on the various laws of the game. We have been getting lot of complaints about the standard of refereeing in the country and Fiji FA is out to put a stop to this. The idea is to further train and develop our referees to improve the standard.”
Chand added that various other workshops and seminars are planned for this year.
“Fiji FA wants our referees to be well versed with the various laws and its interpretation. In light of this another 10 workshops are planned for the season and we hope this step will go a long way in improving our standards,” he said.
Chand was present at the basic referee’s course in Labasa a few weeks ago. Twenty five participants attended the course which was conducted by instructor Mukesh Chand and he was backed strongly by Shalesh Chand and FIFA assistant referee Phul Singh.
Course also concluded in Suva which was conducted by instructors Hari Raj Naicker and Balram Nair. Southern zone referees coordinator Bobby Dave and Suva referees association president Manik Prasad was also present.
