Milestone achievement

Kumar became the first Fijian referee to officiate past the semifinal stage at an FIFA event.
He was part of the OFC trio at the tournament which also included Peter O’Leary and Mark Rule of New Zealand.
The local referee who earned his spot at the FIFA Club World Cup for the second consecutive year was pleased with his achievement.
“It is a great achievement not only for me but for all of us from Fiji Football and referees association. This was a very big moment for my personal refereeing career and I’ am very happy also to share my achievement with the country,” he said.
Kumar last season became the first Fijian to officiate at the FIFA Club World Cup and the London Olympics.
The Western-based referee is in the running and could no doubt be named in the referee’s panel for the 2014 senior men’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil, something which has not been achieved by any local yet.
Earlier this year he also was part of the trio which officiated the OFC Nations Cup final between Tahiti and New Caledonia.
Fiji referees recently have enjoyed a lot of success.
Amitesh Behari officiated at the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Thailand and Women’s referee Finau Vulivuli at the FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup.
Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel wished Kumar well and is proud of his achievement.
Corinthians beat Chelsea 1-0 in the final to be crowned the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup champion.
