Rishi Kumar, the Ba Football Association President said this will be an achievement for his side. He says they have beaten their old record of playing 46 matches in a season which was set back in 2007.
The Men in Black last Sunday retained the Fiji Sun/Weet-Bix National Football League title with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Nivea Savusavu at Govind Park in their last encounter.
“In the 2011 season over a period of 42 weeks we have played 61 matches. Ba has beaten their own record set previously. Besides the three local tournament matches all other were 90 minute games. This is an achievement for our side,” Kumar said.
“This sort of exposure will no doubt help in the development of our own players in the long run. 61 matches in a season could be a world record.”
In the 2011 season Ba participated in the Pillay Garments Champions League, Fiji Sun/Weet-Bix National Football League, Vodafone Fiji FACT, Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants,
Courts Inter District Championship, friendly against Waitakere, Radio Apna Cup in New Zealand, Canadian tour and the O-League which will conclude next year in March.
The clash against Tefana this Saturday marks the end of Ba’s 2011 season. Kumar assures that they will be all out for a fairy tale ending to this chapter but at the same time wary of the challenge winless Tefana will present at home.
“This is the last match of the first round O-League and our final one as far as the 2011 season is concerned. It will not be an easy task against Tefana as away matches are always tough but I have faith in my boys that they will do us proud,” Kumar said.
Ba side departs for Tahiti tomorrow.
