National League board chairman Shiek Ibrahim said adverse weather conditions has contributed towards the move. He said district associations have also been facing difficulties.
“Few districts mainly Labasa, Nadi Tavua and Ba have contacted the national league board and raised concern on non availability of grounds for their training. The ground authorities also indicated that if the present wet weather continues then the grounds will be closed that is not available for the league matches and to add weather news clearly indicates more rain in west and other parts of Fiji,” Ibrahim said.
“In view of this we have decided to postpone this round of matches and we will announce later of when the league will start.”
Ba which was one of the affected districts during the recent flooding said they have been facing a lot of difficulties.
Their president Rishi Kumar sent a electronic mail yesterday to the NLB requesting for a postponement.
“Ba FA is requesting for deferment of it’s National League fixture for this weekend due to adverse weather condition in Western Division. Ba soccer team is unable to train due to unavailability of training grounds in Ba due to recent flood. The team has not trained since Monday 23rd January and eight of our soccer boys are directly affected due to the flood,” Kumar said.
“The team will not be able to play without training. Furthermore there’s no drinking water in Ba and players are currently looking after the welfare of their families. We hope and understand that Fiji Football Association make announcement keeping in mind the welfare and safety of soccer players and public,” he said.
