And participating in the Fiji FACT for the first time their inspirational president Jabid Hussein says they have put in a lot of effort coming into the first of the three Fiji Football Association sanctioned tournaments.
Savusavu has been seeded in pool two along with host Lautoka, Nadroga, Suva and Nadi.
“We are going in this tournament as underdogs and we will give our best shot. Our aim is to qualify for the semi final and we will be working towards that. I believe Lautoka will be a tough side to beat but we cannot underestimate any of our opponents,” Hussein said.
Savusavu proved to be a giant killer during the Fiji Sun/Weet-Bix National Football League this season as they toppled Ba 1-0 and leaders Labasa 1-0.
Suva out for positive start
Power Electric Suva president Mahen Prasad is optimistic of a good outing by his capital side at the 2011 Vodafone Fiji FACT which starts tomorrow at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
Despite a slow start and a bag of mixed results, Prasad believes all that could change come the Fiji FACT.
Suva faces Nadi tomorrow night in their opening match 6.45pm and Prasad says the capital side is out for a positive start.
“Nadi as always has been a very good tournament team and I know that they will be up for the challenge. We are treating this game as a final,” he said.
“Suva is coming prepared for this tournament and I’m sure that we will get a positive result out of this match.”
Apisai Smith who signed with Suva this season was named captain during their presentation night last Monday. Former national Under-20 rep Akei Uluibau has been given the
task to assist Smith.
Prasad believes the young talent in his side could be the winning formula come the 2011 Vodafone Fiji FACT.
“Looking at the Suva side there are a lot of young boys. Most of them are in their 22’s and 23’s. They are still very young and I’m sure will play with lot of heart to see Suva excel,” he said.
