No change in 2012 format
There is no change in the format of the 2012 Fiji Sun GP Batteries National Football League which starts early next month.
Shiek Ibrahim the national football league board chairman said matches will be played on a home and away basis as in the past seasons.
He said the league season at the moment is expected to conclude in August. The 2013 season will start in November and Ibrahim believes they have ample time to complete the
2012 season.
Fixtures
The fixtures for the 2012 Fiji Sun GP Batteries National Football League have been revised. Ibrahim said the postponements over the past weeks affected the various bookings for the grounds.
O-League
*The O-League from next year will be played over a period of two months only. Bob Kumar the Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) said they were advised of the decision a fortnight ago during an Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) meeting in Auckland, New Zealand.
Kumar adds that the current O-League format has turned out to be a costly affair for OFC.
“Fiji FA has been asked to align their season and complete it by April. The winner would go forward to participate in the O-League in the months of June-July,” Kumar said.
*The 2012 Fiji Sun GP Batteries National Football League will not offer an O-League spot. Instead the winner of the 2013 season which starts in November and ends in April will earn a berth in The O-League which will then be held next year.
*Ba having won the Fiji Sun Weet-Bix National Football League in 2011 will go ahead and represent Fiji in the 2012/2013 O-League which will be the last of the old format.
