It’s Rewa “AGAIN”

The match was decided on a penalty shoot –out after normal and extra time could not determine the winner.
Rewa outscored Suva 4-3 in the penalty shootout with veteran Lorima Dau firing in the winning penalty.
This marks a record fifth title in a row which the delta tigers have won since the 2010 Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants.
Pranil Singh the Rewa President, said winning on their home turf was one of the memorable moment for their association.
“It is a proud moment for all of Rewa, the biggest and best victory we could have achieved at home. Based on past results a lot of people doubted that Rewa could not win at home but we have proved them wrong,” Singh said.
“The secret in winning was the commitment and dedication by the players.”
Suva skipper Esava Naqeleca and Leone Damudamu missed their penalty shots while Luke Ha-atera, Apisai Smith and Archie Watkins made no mistake.
Solomon Islander James Naka slotted in the first penalty for Rewa but his fellow countryman’s shot went wide.
The next three Rewa players, Misaele Draunibaka, Epeli Saukuru and Lorima Dau were on target.
Suva put in a good performance in the final with their skipper Naqeleca, the standout on the field.
The capital side had many opportunities and looked the better side in the first spell but the Rewa defence was not ready to let go of the holygrail just yet.
Rewa had a better second half and at times pressured Suva goalie Emori Ragata who guarded his area well.
Player/Coach of Rewa, Marika Rodu said the successful defence of the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants title is a major inspiration for the upcoming events.
“Coming through in this tournament was not an easy task. We came out of a pool of death, lost to Labasa which only made us stronger to grow from strength to strength and glory to glory.”
“Before the penalty shootout I stressed to the players that this was anyone’s game. I told them to stay calm and not double minded.
“I would like to thank the almighty for giving us the strength and the players familes who also have scarified a lot which all contributed towards Rewa retaining the B.O.G title,” Rodu said.
The delta tigers picked up the first prize money of $11,000 while Suva walked away with $4000.
Suva skipper Esava Naqeleca who also was named the player of the tournament believes they were unlucky but has faith that the capital side will be one to reckon with in the next tournament.
“I think we played well in the final but in a penalty shootout it is anyone’s game and I would like to congratulate Rewa. I missed a penalty as well and we were just unlucky. On the positive note we are a very young side, we need to work on our fitness and combination and we should be alright,” he said.
Celebrations may be in the minds of the Rewa side but later in October they will be put to the test again to defend the Courts Inter District Championship. Since bagging the B.O.G title last season, Rewa has won the 2010 Courts Inter District Championship, 2011 Pillay Garments Champions League and recently the 2011 Vodafone Fiji FACT.
