Being pleased with the achievement, the Angel Mackerel Tavua skipper said his side was taking the BOG seriously and will do their best to claim glory.
Salauneune lead by example when Tavua faced Bic Suva in the first round encounter at the TFL National Stadium in Suva.
His 12th minute goal saw Tavua lead most part of the match and it seemed that an upset was on the card only to be denied by a injury time equaliser from Esava Naqeleca.
“Our message was clear, that we had to play well and to the best of our ability but sadly luck was not on our side,” he said.
“I’m pleased to have scored the first goal of the tournament. Our aim at this tournament is to qualify for the semis first and then go on to win the BOG.”
Salauneune was part of the national U20 side which participated in the recent Oceania playoffs and the upcoming talent is likely to book a spot in the U23 side which will be participating in the Olympic Games playoffs next year.
Kamal Swamy who is part of the national senior men’s side coaching panel is guiding Tavua’s campaign at the BOG.
Tavua will be on a bye tonight as the Inkk Mobile BOG continues as they will be in action twice in action on Friday where they face Nivea Savusavu 1pm and later against Royal Tea Nadi at 6pm.
