Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) President Dr. Muhammed Shams-UD-Dean Sahu Khan says a huge fifty thousand dollars incentive is allocated with the team given the task to win the U-17 playoffs.
Fiji has been seeded in a tough group along with host New Zealand, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and American Samoa. Group B sees Solomon Islands, Tahiti, Tonga, New Caledonia and Cook Islands. At the end of the round robin stage both group winners will qualify for the final. The second placed team from each group will play for third and fourth place.
The OFC U-17 playoffs will be held from 8-19th January at the North Harbour Stadium in NZ.
Dr. Sahu Khan says upon qualifying for the final, players will be entitled a $1000 each. Going a step further and winning the overall playoffs will see each player receive $2000.
“I have announced that $50,000.00 has been allocated as an incentive. If the National U-17 side qualify for the final they will receive $1000 and if they win the overall playoffs then $2000 each for the whole 20-member squad,” Dr. Sahu Khan said.
“During the presentation night, I reminded the players that they are not playing for themselves but for the country. They must respect the laws of the game and accept the referee’s decision. Players must unite and play as a team, “he said.
The overall winner of the OFC U-17 playoffs will earn a spot in the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico.
