A wild attempt from Singh outside the right hand side of opposition box on the 19th minute of the first spell found Labasa goalie Matelita Vuakoso napping. Labasa had dominated early play but Singh’s goal seemed to have taken the sting off their confidence.
National reps with the likes of Mereoni Uluiviti, Lewamanu Moce, Jijilia Luveni and Stella Naivalulevu boosted the Suva outfit which only conceded one goal in the three- day tournament.
Suva was rewarded with $2000-00 prize money for their hard work. This was their third women’s IDC title one which they last won in 2006. Suva right back Evelyn Kumar was also named the “Player of the Tournament” and received $100 from Shariff Investments managing director Mohammed Shariff. Runner up Labasa received $750-00.
Surendra Prasad the Suva team director says the victory today, erased the bad memories of last season.
“I’m very proud and happy with the girls for winning this title. Last year we missed out due to an own goal but I’m pleased that we were able to turn things around this time. All credit goes to the players and I can assure that the prize money will be shared amongst the players,” Prasad said.
Meanwhile Nadi was awarded the most discipline team while Tavua and Navua both received $250-00 as the losing semi finalist.
