The Delta Tigers beat Kit Kat Southern Forest Navua 1-0 in an epic final thanks to a goal by Solomon Islander Abraham Iniga
A speechless Rewa skipper and goalie Simione Tamanisau says the win was possible through the effort put in by the players and support from fans and the team management.
“First of all I would like to thank the almighty for this victory. I’m lost of words and just can’t describe the feeling of winning the BOG title. The boys played their hearts out for the victory and I must thank the Rewa supporters and team management,” Tamanisau said.
Navua had earlier beaten Rewa 1-0 in pool play but the overall winners turned the tables around in the final.
Rewa on the other hand ended the 2010 BOG on a high note defeating sides like Lautoka, Puma Labasa, Tim Tam Tavua and giants Energizer Ba in their path to glory.
Earlier in the semi final Rewa thumped Lautoka 4-0 while Navua edged Royal Tea Nadi 2-1.
Rewa striker Ratu Veresa Toma was awarded the best player of the tournament while New Zealand based Auckland City rep Adam Dickinson who was in Navua colours was the recipient of highest goal scorer award of the tournament.
Dickinson scored a total of six goals at the BOG, the most crucial one being the last minute goal which rescued Navua to settle for a 2-2 draw against Ba.
This was Rewa’s fourth BOG tiltle since the inception of the second Fiji Football Association tournament in 1978. The Last time Rewa last lifted the prestigious title was six years ago. On that occasion the delta tigers beat Ba 2-0.
Ba failed to win the BOG for the fifth year in a row after bundling out at the round robin stage.
Rewa took home a hefty prize money of $11,000.00 while Navua settled for $4,000.00. Losing semi finalist Lautoka and Nadi were each given $1,000.00 each.
Rewa‘s results: Rewa 2 Ba 1, Rewa 5 Tavua 2, Rewa 4 Labasa 0, Rewa 0 Navua 1: Semi final Rewa 4 Lautoka 0: Final- Rewa 1 Navua 0.
