Lautoka targets Amicale

Coach Gurjit Singh believes Amicale will be no walkover but stressed that losing will not be option for them. He says the Shop N Save sponsored side has been covering the hard yards in preparation for the battle.
The Lautoka-Amicale match kicks off 3pm at Govind Park in Ba. Both sides are currently locked with three points on top of Group A.
Amicale with the likes of lethal striker Alick Maemae and futsal maestro Jack Wetney will be the thorn for Lautoka defence. The duo played a huge role in Amicale’s 2-1 victory over defending O-League champions Hekari United on match day one.
“Preparation has been going on well for Lautoka and we are looking forward to the match this Saturday. Amicale beat a strong side like Hekari and with the services of top Solomon and Vanuatu players they will be a tough opposition for us,” Singh said.
Lautoka 0-1 loss to Hekari United and Tafea FC at home last season cost them a place in the 2009-10 O-League final.
“Last season the two losses in our home matches affected Lautoka’s progress and we cannot afford to do that again. A win will give us a good lead in the group standings. Even a draw would be a useful,” Singh said.
The former National U-23 coach who was the recipient of the 2009 Fiji Football Association ‘Coach of the Year” award says he has mapped out his plans for Sunday.
“Amicale play a similar style of football like Solomon’s. They play with a lot of short passes and Lautoka on the other hand will need to change our style of play just like we did against Koloale.
“Our boys had a fitness test last Saturday and I’m happy with the current level which the players are in,” Singh said.
In the other Group A match Koloale travels to Papua New Guinea to face Hekari United.
