League Update

At Prince Charles a bumper crowd turned out to cheer for their Nadi side which welcomed back two former stars, Ratu Veresa Toma and top goalie Beniaminio Mateinaqara.
Rewa also fancied former Suva rep Apisai Smith. The delta tigers silenced the Nadi crowd when defender Lorima Dau scored the opening goal of the match on the 12th minute.
Trailing 0-1 at the break, Nadi was backed strongly by their fans and they were rewarded when their striker Uraia Loki equalised.
Nadi dominated the second half but failed to find the match winner.
Jiten Kumar, the Nadi FA president said they were satisfied with the result.
“At the end of the day one point is good enough. I would like to thank the Nadi fans who came out in numbers to support us. With one point in the bag we will take a postive approach as we prepare for our next match,” Kumar said.
Rewa coach Marika Rodu says his side was lucky to walk away with one point.
“We are fortunate to get one point from this match. We were leading in the match but Nadi was more determined and had the crowd support behind them. For us our focus is now on our next match,” Rodu said.
At Subrail Park, host Labasa also had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Tavua.
A huge crowd made their way to witness the Labasa side which has lost several key players during the last Fiji FA transfer and registration window.
In his first charge of the Babasiga Lions new Labasa coach Taniela Tuilevuka said various hard yards needed to be covered.
“We need to go back and work on basics now especially the defence and attack,” he said.
Tavua who will in action on Sunday against Savusavu hopes to return to Viti Levu with four points.
“We missed several of our key players who could not be released due to work commitments. Savusavu is next and hope to claim a victory.
After a goalless first spell, Tavua’s Jale Vota gave his side the lead in the 53rd minute. Their joy was short-lived as Apisai Sasewa equalised ten minutes later.
Lautoka was the only side which walked away with three points on the day as they claimed a huge 5-1 victory over Nadroga.
