Course develops new Coaches

Fiji FA in conjunction with FIFA and Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) organised a D –License Level 1 course last week at the National Academy in Ba.
Around 15 participants from the various parts of the country attended the course which was conducted by FIFA instructor, also the Football Ferns assistant coach & Junior Ferns Head coach Tony Readings. He was assisted by OFC women’s development officer Emmie Sope.
Rajesh Patel, the Fiji FA President assured that women’s football will not be neglected. He added that the national body will do its best to see both men’s and women’s football progress equally.
“Women’s football in Fiji will not be neglected,” Patel said.
“Fiji FA will support women’s football in the country starting from the grassroots level right up to the senior level. This course is just the beginning of the better things to come the way of women’s football to see it further develop.”
Fiji FA women’s development manager and national women’s head coach Usenio Logaivau elaborated further on the week long course which was held in Ba last week.
“The overall objective of the course was to see that we develop more qualified coaches for women’s football. The course was divided into two parts whereby the first included coaching and second the planning. Various topics and practical sessions were covered over the week.
“The next step will be for these coaches to work closely with their district officials, our development officers in their respective zones to coach and up-skill women players at the primary, secondary and community level,” Logaivau said.
Fiji FA technical director Farouk Janeman believes this a major positive step towards the growth of women’s football.
“This course will help raise the standard of coaching as far as women’s football is concerned. The participants have learned the basics and the challenge now will be for them to coach at their districts.”
