A-G commends Fiji FA

Fiji’s Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum commended Fiji Football Association for adhering to governments COVID-19 protection measures during the 2020 Punjas Battle of the Giants Tournament at Lautoka’s Churchill Park last Friday.

Khaiyum, while opening the tournament said this was the first tournament in the country since the pandemic started and I acknowledge Fiji FA for the measures put in place for the tournament,

“It is critically important that we all adhere to the protocols in place to protect us from COVID-19, including downloading the CareFIJI app,” said Khaiyum.

“The pandemic is still around but the fact that Fiji is fully contained because we have able to ease off some of the health measures that have been put in place.”

“I would like to thank Fiji FA for advocating the use of the careFiji app.”

Sayed-Khaiyum said it was critically important for everyone to adhere to the protocols that have been put in place regarding COVID-19.

 “We must continue to adhere to all COVID-19 protection measures because this ensures the safety of Fijians,” the A-G said.

He added that those who sponsors sports events would get 150 percent tax deduction.

“We wanted the sporting organisations to have the support of the private sector,”Khaiyum said.

“We acknowledge the support of Punjas in this particular instance because of these difficult times but they have come forward to sponsor the tournament.”

Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel thanked the government and Ministry of Health for the hard work they had put in to restrain the pandemic.

 “I understand that our members have struggled their way through this pandemic, and everybody in this world is suffering and affected.”

“At this juncture, I would like to thank all the health care officials, personals, Minister for Health and Government department for the excellent work done in containing the Covid-19 that has kept Fiji in control, “said Patel

“We are sitting here today because of their excellent work so that all the activities can begin. Without their help, it would not have been possible.”
