Forty players from the Digicel Futsal League Central Zone were called in for the trials for the Digicel national futsal team last weekend.
The three days camp was to select the best for the upcoming OFC Futsal Invitational Tournament to be staged in Fiji in September.
Fiji FA Futsal coach Jerry Sam the main objective of the camp was to select the best from the southern division which is the first stage of preparation.
“This is the first round of trials and I have seen some potential players but we also select players from the Digicel Futsal League western zone before finalising the final 20-member squad for the tournament,” said Sam
Sam said he was looking for players who have a full understanding of what the game is all about.
“I have seen some players are committed to futsal and they have been doing well in the competition,”
He said he would only consider football players if they show their commitment.
“There are no guarantee for the national football players in the team because I want players who have a heart for futsal,”
“If they can commit themselves to Futsal I just want to give them the opportunity to come and showcase the talent that they got for futsal if we can make it into the national team then possibly I can select them.”
Sam adds he has seen some potential picks from the Southern zone and will be moving to the west next for the second round of trials.
